The Largest Planet
Jupiter
Jupiter is the fifth planet from the sun and the largest planet in the solar system. It is more than twice massive as all the planets combined. The iconic Great Red Spot is a huge storm bigger than the earth. this planet actually does not have a true surface, instead of the land, it is made up of swelling gasses and colorful storms.
Distance from sun: 778.5 million km
Orbital period: 2 years
Surface area: 61.42 billion km square
Mass: 1.898 × 10^27 kg (317.8 M⊕)
Radius: 69,911 km
Formation
Jupiter was formed when the rest of the solar system formed about 4.5 billion years ago when the swelling gasses and dust were pulled by gravity and formed the gas giant. About 4 billion ago Jupiter settled into its current position and became the fifth planet from the sun.
Layer
Jupiter actually does not have any layer inside as it is mostly made up of gas.
Atmosphere
The cold stripes and swirls with the windy clouds of ammonia and water are floating in the atmosphere of hydrogen and helium. The outermost clouds are made up of ammonia ice. The colorful gasses makes Jupiter the third brightest natural object in the solar system.
Rings
Unlike the other planets, Jupiter's rings are very faint and made up of dust instead of ice. The rings of Jupiter were first discovered by NASA's Voyager 1 spacecraft in 1979.
Moons
There are 79 moons of Jupiter from which 53 have been confirmed, and 26 are awaiting confirmation. lo, Europa, Ganymade, and Callisto are Jupiter's four biggest moons.
