The Astroid Belt

Asteroid Belt

The asteroid belt is a torus-shaped region in the solar system located between the orbit of Mars and Jupiter. This region contains a huge number of irregularly shaped bodies, of many sizes and shapes, they are smaller than the planets in the solars system,  they are called asteroids and are also known as minor planets. This was the main asteroid belt, there is another type of asteroid belt called trojan asteroids. The Trojan asteroids are located in the orbit of Jupiter. The irregular-shaped rocks are called the trojan planets.

Formation

These were formed with the rocks and clouds of dust which was left over the space floating here and there, but finally, about 4.4 billions years ago it was collected in region as there was a gravity balance that kept them in a fixed region.

Facts

1) The asteroid belt was first discovered in 1801.
